Rankings of Poker Hands

Poker is a great game to play for the entire family. There are many varieties of poker available to play and it can provide hours of entertainment for friends and family. To become familiar with poker, you will have to become familiar with the rankings of poker hands. This will help you bet more effectively and allow you to win more often. There are ten rankings.The lowest ranking is the high card. This simply means you have the highest ranking card at the table from one through ace and nobody else has anything significant in their hand.

The next highest is two of a kind. This means that you have at least two cards of the same denomination. Two pair is the next highest which means you have two sets of identical cards. If two players have the exact same two of a kind or two pair, the player with the highest ranking extra card wins.Three of a kind is the next. If you have three of the same denomination card, you have three of a kind. A straight is the next high rank hand you can have.

This means you have all five cards in sequence but they are not of the same suit. For example, you may have a two of hearts, three of spades, four of diamonds, five of clubs and six of clubs. This will be a straight because you do not have all the same suit.A flush is a hand where you have all the same suit but not all in sequence. This is the next highest ranking hand.

For example you may have a three of hearts, five of hearts, six of hearts, jack of hearts and ace of hearts. Not all the cards are in sequence but they are all hearts, so you have a flush. A full house is the next and it consists of three of a kind and a pair. For example, you may have three fours and two fives. This is a full house. Four of a kind is the next highest ranking and means you have four of the same denomination card.A straight flush is the second to highest card ranking and means you have all cards in sequence in the same suit.

For example, you may have the two, three, four, five and six of diamonds. This will be a straight flush. The best hand possible to get is a royal flush. This hand beats all other hands. This means you have the ace, king, queen, jack and ten of all the same suit. Knowing the rankings of poker hands is important so you can win the game.

If there is a tie and two people have the same hand, the highest cards win. For example if two people have three of a kind, the three of a kind with the highest denomination will win. If two players have the exact same hand such as the same two pair, the highest extra card is used as the tie breaker.
