How to Play Texas Hold ‘Em Poker

Texas Hold ‘Em poker is one of the more popular poker games. This is a great game to play online, against a computer, in a casino or for a home poker tournament. The rules are easy to learn and it is a fun game to play. As you may have noticed from watching it on T.V., it's fast becoming the most popular poker game available.

Each player is dealt two cards, face down for their hand. This is called the hole cards. Based on the strength of these cards the table bets on their hand. This is the first round of betting that occurs and is often called the pre flop. Each player should see what possible variations could occur to have a good hand. Once this is done, the dealer discards the top card of the deck. This is called the burn card and prevents cheating.

Then the flop is dealt. The flop consists of three cards that are placed face up to be used by all players. This is combined with the hands that were dealt face down for each individual player. The next round of betting then occurs. If any combination using the two hole cards and three of the flop cards makes a strong poker hand, the bets can be raised. If you still do not have a good hand, it is best to bet low. The dealer then discards another burn card.

The dealer now turns over one more community card called the turn card. This is used with the flop to add to the card combinations in the player’s hand. There are now two cards dealt face down in each player’s hand and four community cards. Using any combination of the hole cards and community cards, determine if you have a solid poker hand. This will now be where the next round of betting occurs. Now that you have even more information and use of six cards for possible combinations, you can look at all the possible combinations to see if you have anything that will potentially win the round. Bet high on strong hands, low on weaker ones.

At this time, the dealer burns the final card of the game and turns over the final community card of the round. This is called the river. The players then start the final round of betting. The players will need to use their two hole cards and any combination of the community cards from the flop, turn and river. The strongest combination will win the hand in the final showdown after revealing your hold cards.

Texas Hold ‘Em poker rules are easy to learn and it provides a fun game for playing at home or in casino sponsored tournaments. Pot limits and betting rules are often determined by the players in the tournament for home games. The pots don’t have to be large and there can be restrictions for each betting round also. Casinos have their own restrictions on betting and there may be limits that have to be met and raising restrictions.
